Position: Ad Sales Rep
Company: Watershed-Publishing
Job Description:
Watershed-Publishing.com seeks an Advertising Sales Representative to start in October 2008.

Responsibilities

As a Watershed-Publishing Account Manager, you will be responsible for keeping your online ad sales pipeline properly fed and renewed, open new accounts, and turn them into repeat customers.

Based on our existing ongoing lead generation efforts, you will qualify leads and pursue those likely to close. This translates into a) identifying the proper decision makers, b) identifying when and whether they might be interested in buying ad space with us, c) answering their questions and sending them relevant collateral, and d) making proposals, closing and renewing business.

You will mostly make outbound phone calls and use email. You will rarely if ever make outbound visits, at least not until your profile evolves to include large sales closing (and even then it's rarely needed).

You will keep our lead database clean and up-to-date. We will provide you a list of hundreds of companies and contacts to get started; you will have to maintain and expand it over time. Attention to data quality and details is required.

Challenges: be a friendly but tough long-distance runner

- Bravely face adversity or lack of response: not all secretaries and marketers will love talking with you on the phone, but that's not going to stop you. Remain productive and motivated over a long period of time even though the job sometimes might be a bit repetitive.

- Deliver consistent results over the months, not just during quarter closing like in many sales organizations.

- Remain available and responsive to your prospects and within your team.

Requirements

- You are articulate in verbal and written communications, with proper grammar and spelling.

- You are well-mannered, pay attention to details and have a good memory. You have a strong sense of ethics, good judgment, and you hate to drop the ball.

- You like interacting with people and are not afraid by unresponsiveness or being turned down. You are aggressive without being obnoxious.

- You are familiar enough with online media and advertising to know basics about page impressions, CPM rates, click-throughs.

- You have one to three years of sales experience. Ideally you are familiar with B2B sales, the sales cycle, and lead generation.

- Ideally you have a college degree. We will look at people without college education, if you strongly fit other criteria.

- You have decent MS Word and MS Excel skills. You know your way around data entry tools (Salesforce.com experience is a plus).

Compensation

$2,000 – $3,000 monthly fixed salary, depending on experience, + commissions that should take you into the $45K-65K range depending on your results vs. your quota.

Company

Watershed Publishing is a growing, profitable online trade publisher created in 2003. We publish daily-updated web sites and email newsletters: MarketingVox.com, MediaBuyerPlanner.com, MarketingCharts.com, DefenseIndustryDaily.com, Adrants and HospitalBuyer.com. This sales opening is focused on our existing and future marketing publications in the marketing and retail space. Our headquarters is located in Vermont but our team members live and work all over the place, including Massachusetts, California, Montana and other states, as well as abroad.

We're mostly people in their thirties who have been through the online boom, bust and boom redux, and want to build a real business regardless of bubbles and business cycles. We try not to take ourselves too seriously, but to take what we do very seriously, starting with delivering great service to our advertisers and great content to our readers.

Organization

You will report to our Sales Manager in charge of the Marketing/Advertising sector, and work with our sales and ad trafficking team. This full-time position requires you to have a properly set up home office with broadband internet access. Ideally this is not your first home office job.

Why you want the job

- Great opportunity to contribute. No politics, no glass ceiling preventing you from growing.

- Real opportunity to learn and move from "opener" to "closer" and become a more seasoned sales professional, and build a worthwhile portfolio of contacts in advertising/publishing.

- Good money if you make the right kind of output.

- Big territory: you'll never find yourself without prospects to pursue.

- Real sales job, not a silly .com/web 2.0 "business development" where it's good enough to line up "partnerships" that don't produce any incremental revenue.

- Job for a thinking human being, not a robot. Yes, you will have to be systematic, but no, we won't ask you to read word for word from pre-written scripts.

To apply
